Spud mud - Spud mud is mud used to drill a well from surface to a shallow depth. Guar gum or salt gel are commonly used offshore as spud mud.
Spud - "Spud" is a common nickname for the potato in English-speaking countries. The term spud has been falsely traced to a 19th century activist group dedicated to keeping the potato out of Britain, calling itself The Society for the Prevention of an Unwholesome Diet.
Spud (book) - Spud (ISBN 0143024841) is the title of a 2005 book by South African author, actor, playwright and producer, John Howard van de Ruit. The book is in the style of a diary, and records the experiences of a new boy, John Howard Milton (nicknamed 'Spud' because his balls haven't dropped yet!
